The Chairman Council of ULAMA Katsina state Branch, Sheikh Naziru Kofar Baru Daura, has appealed to the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to extend the deadline of expiration of old Currency notes, soon to fall into disuse.
Sheikh Naziru Kofar Baru Daura made the appeal, during a press briefing held at the State Secretariat of the Council in Katsina, on the expiration of old Currency notes comprising of two hundred, five hundred, as well as the one thousand naira note.
The State Chairman, Council of ULAMA explained that, by extending the period, it will enable people still in posssession of the old currency, to deposit it into their respective bank accounts.
He expressed dismay over the shortage of the New Naira Notes, which is hardly in circulation, which some commercial banks operating in the state claim not to have in their vaults.
Sheikh Naziru Kofar Baru Daura said, it is the responbility of the council to voice the complaint of the masses, to enable all authorities concerned to know of this dire situation.
He used the occasion pray for the State and country as a whole, as well as the smooth conduct of the general election, which is just around the corner.
