Kwara state police command has confirmed that one hundred and three ( 103 ) persons lost their lives in the boat mishap that occurred between Niger and Kwara state on the River Niger.
In a statement the spokesman of the command, Okasanmi Ajayi,said one hundred and ninety seven (197) persons out of about three hundred ( 300) passengers involved in the mishap, survived the accident.
Okasanmi said the names of survivors would be made public when available.
The victims were returning from a marriage ceremony in Niger state to Kwara on the River when the water wave made their boat hit a tree resulting into the boat capsizing which led to the death of the victims.END
