The Northern Nigeria Disability Forum NNDF has appealed to Federal and State governments to implement the five per cent affirmative action for Persons With Disabilities in their various appointment across the country.
The Chairman of the Group Comrade Yarima Suleiman Ibrahim made the appeal after their Nirth-Central Congress meeting, held in lafia, the Nasarawa State Capital.
The Chairman explained that President and state governirs should implement the affirmative action in the appointment of members of their cabinet and Heads of Governments Ministries, Department and Agencies.
He also appealed to the federal government to consider qualified persons with disabilities in employment of civil servants to make thier lives worthwhile.
According to him, most their members are educated and are politicians but are hardly employed or appointed into public offices because of their disabilities.
The Northern Nigeria Forum Chairman expressed confidence that if fully implemented by the federal and state government, would go a long way toward addressing street begging and poverty among them.
He also appealed to government to design a programme to support disabled persons who are not educated with grants to go into businesses and trades to be able to cater for themselves and thier families.
Comrade Yarima Suleiman Ibrahim, therefore, assured that they would continue to be law abiding and support the government at all levels to succeed.
