The house of Representatives says there is urgent need to increase the frequency and validity of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination UTME.
The chairman adhoc committee on JAMB Mrs Regina Akume, made the remark at a public hearing with stakeholders in the Education sector organized by the committee at the National Assembly.
Mrs Akume who represents Gboko/Tarka federal Constituency of Benue state, stated that this would cushion the effects of the high rate of scarce resources being expended annually by parents and guardians.
According to her, about 1.7 million candidates register for the examination every year in recent times.
She explained that the committee has met with the Board and other relevant stakeholders, were presentations were made, positions taken and agreements reached as would be revealed later.
