The Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery-NACA has commenced activities for its annual field training exercise code-named *EXERCISE VULCAN GLOW*
The Exercise, which is the 9th in the series, will feature lecture/study period, mass movement of troops as well as military weapons and equipment.
In his welcome address during the lecture session holden at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery Kachia in Kaduna State, Commander Artillery Corps, Major General Markus Kangye explained that in view of the security challenges bedeviling Nigeria, the exercise was designed to practice how artillery formations and units provide firepower to Army operations to enhance national security.
He noted that the exercise was also designed to practice the deployment of artillery resources in conventional and unconventional warfare, as well as military operations other than war.
Major General Kangye added that the exercise was imperative as participants are expected to interact, share experiences and set conditions necessary for the successful conduct of the exercise.
In a paper presentation, a former Commander of the Artillery Corps, Lt General Chikadibia Obiakor(rtd), stressed the need for the corps to intensify research and development in order to achieve its set objective.
He pointed out that research and development is a key enabler for the corps’ airpower projection, as the military strive to curtail security threats across the country.
Radio Nigeria reports that on the sidelines of the exercise, 7 Majors who were recently promoted to the rank of Lt Colonel were decorated with their new ranks.
The theme for this year’s edition of Exercise Vulcan Glow is “Transforming NACA for effective fire support in asymmetric warfare through sustained research and development and local repair effort in joint operations environment”
