A gubernatorial aspirant in the APC primaries for the Edo State governorship election Dr Ernest Umakhile, says a strong revenue drive is what is needed to improve revenue generation and the economy of the state.
Addressing newsmen after submitting his nomination and expression of interest forms at the APC headquarters in Abuja, Dr Umakhile stated that to get the appropriate revenue to run the state, an effective taxation policy is needed.
“Like I told you I’m a taxation expert and a fellow of the institute of taxation of Nigeria. For taxation we are talking about revenue derivation, revenue generation and revenue drive, and getting the appropriate revenue to run a state. I’m coming through with that with my experience experience.
On security challenges in the state, Dr Umakhile said he would he would leverage on the existence of the police community relations, the neighborhood watch, the constabulary scheme and work closely with the traditional institution across various localities to gather enough intelligence to assist law enforcement agencies.
In the education sector, Umakhile gave the assurance that if elected, his government would revamp failed infrastructure in educational institutions and put in place a culture that schools do not go decrepit before they are attended to.
Other measures according to him include improving school curriculum, training and retraining of teachers as well as the resuscitation of vocational and technical education.
